Type Approval (for container or accessory)

Reference Clauses of the Act : Art. 49-21, para. (1) and Art. 49-33, para. (1)

It means the approval of the Minister of METI, which a Registered Manufacturer of Containers, etc. or Registered Foreign Manufacturer of Containers, etc. should obtain for the type of a container or accessory (hereinafter referred to as “container, etc.”) to manufacture. An approved type of a container, etc. on which a prescribed stamp or marking plate is put or attached (stamping or attaching a marking plate for containers or stamping for accessories) may be transferred or delivered without being made to undergo a container inspection or accessory inspection conducted by the Minister of METI or others. The stamping or marking plate (or stamping for accessories) is referred to as “Self-Inspection Stamping or Marking Plate (or Self-Inspection Stamping for accessories).”

A person who intends to obtain a Type Approval shall make an application to the Minister of METI. The Minister of METI shall give the Type Approval (i) when the container, etc. pertaining to the application conforms to prescribed standards and (ii) when the applicant is registered in the business category regarding containers or accessories into which that container, etc. falls.
Moreover, the inspection mentioned in item (i) above by the Minister of METI may be replaced with a type test conducted by the High Pressure Gas Safety Institute of Japan or an Authorized Container Inspection Agency. In that case, the High Pressure Gas Safety Institute of Japan or Authorized Container Inspection Agency shall issue a container type test certificate or accessories type test certificate when the container, etc. pertaining to the application conforms to standards, and the applicant shall submit an application to the Minister of METI with that certificate.
